I’m sure you’ve seen Jason around the gym.  He’s our youngest member at just 13 years old, but if you’ve ever seen him lift or workout before, you can tell he’s way beyond his years.  He attended our Olympic Lifting clinic with Aileen Wu a couple months ago, and she was extremely impressed with his technique and maturity.

Let’s learn a little more about him in his own words…

Jason Kapa Pascua

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF CROSSFIT AND HOW HAS THAT CHANGED?

I heard about CrossFit once my Auntie Ligaya heard about it (He’s the nephew of Ligaya and Rady and also related to Brian Pascua). I thought CrossFit was going to be hard.  I was right because it is hard.  It’s still hard, but it’s fun.

WHEN DID YOU START CROSSFITTING?

I started CrossFit from June 2014 up to now.

HOW DID YOU FIND TORRANCE CROSSFIT?

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT CROSSFIT?

My favorite thing about CrossFit is meeting new people and doing partner workouts.

WHAT RESULTS HAVE YOU SEEN SINCE STARTING CROSSFIT?

I have started losing weight ever since I have started CrossFit.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE TORRANCE CROSSFIT MEMORY?

My favorite memory is the snatch clinic.  It is my favorite memory because I got to learn about form and I got to practice.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE TO PEOPLE WHO ARE ON THE FENCE ABOUT DOING CROSSFIT?

CrossFit WODs are fun and people are friendly.

ANYTHING WE MISSED? TELL US ANYTHING YOU WANT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR SPOTLIGHT HERE?

I have been more focused in school.  I’m also looking forward to the Open workouts.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST PROUD MOMENT/ACHIEVEMENT IN CROSSFIT?

My proudest achievement in CrossFit is snatching 85lbs.

Jason has lost 15 lbs in the 7 short months he’s been doing CrossFit

The 7 months Jason has been CrossFitting, he’s transitioned from a middle school kid who wasn’t active in many extracurricular activities, to thriving in CrossFit with a 85 lb snatch!!! I know for a fact a lot of members are jealous because they don’t even have that yet.  He’s also lost 15 lbs in those 7 short months.  We’re excited to see Jason compete in the teens division for the CrossFit Open next month.  And more importantly, watch him grow and flourish inside and outside of our gym.

For all you cherry pickers who tried dodging today’s workout, we posted the wrong one last night and actually doing that workout tomorrow hehe 🙂

GENERAL CROSSFIT

A. Deadlift 5rm

-aim for 5-10# over last week

B. OPEN WOD 13.1

Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 17 minutes of:

MEN:

40 Burpees
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
30 Burpees
135 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
165 pound Snatch, 30 reps
10 burpees
210 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible

WOMEN –

Proceed through the sequence below completing as many reps as possible in 17 minutes of:
40 Burpees
45 pound Snatch, 30 reps
30 Burpees
75 pound Snatch, 30 reps
20 Burpees
100 pound Snatch, 30 reps
10 burpees
120 pound Snatch, as many reps as possible
